Bypolls: PM says results reaffirm trust in NDA

Shah targets Rahul, says voters rejected INDIA bloc

New Delhi, October 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday hailed the BJP-NDA’s victories in the Lok Sabha and Assembly bye-elections in Assam, West Bengal and Puducherry, saying the results reflected people’s faith in the alliance’s good governance agenda, while Union Home Minister Amit Shah claimed the BJP was winning elections despite what he described as “lies and disinformation campaigns” by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the INDIA bloc.

The BJP won the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency in Assam and the Nandigram and Rejinagar Assembly constituencies in West Bengal, while its NDA ally, the All India NR Congress (AINRC), secured victory in the Thattanchavady Assembly constituency in Puducherry.

In a post on social media platform X, Modi thanked voters for their continued support and said the results demonstrated people’s strong connection with the BJP-NDA’s governance agenda.

“Gratitude to the people for their continuous blessings! The Lok Sabha result of Nagaon (Assam) and Assembly results of Nandigram as well as Rejinagar (West Bengal) show yet again that the people have a deep-rooted connect with the good governance agenda of BJP-NDA,” he said.

The Prime Minister congratulated the victorious BJP candidates and praised party workers for their efforts. He also congratulated the AINRC on its victory in Thattanchavady.

Modi said the mandate would give the alliance additional strength as it continued working for public welfare and fulfilling people’s aspirations for a brighter and more prosperous future.

Shah also welcomed the results, asserting that the BJP continued to win elections despite what he described as misinformation campaigns by Rahul Gandhi and the INDIA bloc.

“The BJP, under the leadership of PM @narendramodi Ji, continues to win elections one after another despite the lies and disinformation campaigns run by Rahul Gandhi and the INDI Alliance,” Shah said in a post on X.

He said the NDA’s victories in Assam, West Bengal and Puducherry, along with recent local body poll results in Rajasthan and Tripura, demonstrated that people had rejected the INDIA bloc.

Shah accused opposition parties of questioning institutions after electoral defeats and said the results reaffirmed public confidence in the BJP.

He congratulated West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha and Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, along with BJP state presidents and party workers.

BJP President Nitin Nabin also described the victories as an endorsement of development and good governance under Modi’s leadership, saying voters had once again rejected attempts to mislead them.

Madhya Pradesh Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya congratulated the winning candidates, attributing the results to public confidence in the country’s progress, good governance and public service.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath congratulated eight BJP Rajya Sabha candidates from the state who were elected unopposed. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also welcomed their election and the NDA’s bypoll victories, describing the results as a reflection of public trust in the ruling alliance.

In the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency in Assam, BJP candidate Devasish Sharma defeated Mohammed Badruddin Ajmal of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF).

In West Bengal’s Nandigram Assembly constituency, BJP candidate Hasi Rani Rath defeated Congress candidate Milan Pradhan, while Shankharavh Sarkar of the BJP won the Rejinagar seat against Golam Nabi Azad of the Aam Janata Unnayan Party.

The AINRC, an NDA ally, won the Thattanchavady Assembly by-election in Puducherry.
