Srinagar, Oct 6: Police arrested eight alleged drug peddlers in separate operations across Budgam, Anantnag and Kulgam districts and recovered heroin, cannabis, poppy straw and other contraband substances, officials said on Tuesday.
In Budgam, police arrested five persons in three separate operations. During naka checking at Hyderpora, Police Post Humhama personnel intercepted a WagonR and recovered 151 grams of heroin from two occupants identified as Aejaz Ahmad Bhat and Tariq Ahmad Paul, both residents of Narkara.
In another operation at West End Colony, Hyderpora, police arrested Faisal Ahmad Shah and Ubaid Feroz Zargar, both residents of Mohanpora, Narkara, and recovered around four grams of a heroin-like substance from them.
During checking near the Airport Drop Gate, police arrested Shalu E.S., a resident of Kerala, and recovered 69 grams of cannabis and 212 grams of poppy straw from his baggage.
In Anantnag, Police Post Sangam personnel arrested Aamir Ahmad Dar of Batengoo after recovering 140 grams of ganja during checking at Batengoo Crossing near Beacon. In a separate operation at G.B. Khalil, Naina-Tulkhan Crossing, police arrested Zaffar Ahmad Sheikh, a Srinagar resident presently living in Naina, and recovered 38.87 grams of charas.
Meanwhile, in Kulgam, police arrested Mohd Ayoub Bhat of Nursingpora after recovering around 14 grams of a charas-like substance during naka checking at Chattabal Crossing.
Cases have been registered under relevant provisions of law in the respective police stations, and investigations are underway.
Police reiterated their zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking and appealed to the public to share information about drug peddling and related activities.
