SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 30: Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma on Wednesday accused the National Conference-led Government of failing to address the concerns of different sections during the seven-day Autumn Session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, saying the Government had “dashed the hopes” of people.
Addressing reporters on the concluding day of the session, Sharma said daily wagers, NHM employees, contractual workers, NYC workers, ASHA and Anganwadi workers and the general public had expected the Government to respond to their issues, but “not a single issue was answered”.
He said the BJP had collected issues from every district and raised them in the Assembly, but alleged that the Government remained silent.
Taking exception to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s description of the session as fruitful, Sharma asked, “Fruitful from which angle?” He said people were waiting for the Government’s resolution on Statehood, but alleged that the issue had been linked with the pre-1953 position and Article 370.
“BJP is committed to Statehood as per its agenda, but you sabotage the Statehood of common people by linking it with Pre-1953 position and Article 370,” Sharma said.
He alleged that bringing the pre-1953 position and Article 370 into the Statehood debate had prolonged the issue. Sharma also criticised Congress for supporting the resolution, questioning its leadership over its position on the issue.
Sharma further questioned the Speaker over allowing what he described as an “unconstitutional resolution” in the House, claiming that the Law Department had declared it illegal. He demanded that the Speaker step down on moral grounds.
He said the people of J&K were “deeply hurt” by the Government’s actions and announced that the BJP had prepared a dossier highlighting what he termed the Government’s unfulfilled promises, which would be submitted through the Assembly.
Sharma also alleged that around 13,000 posts remained vacant and accused the Government of failing to efficiently utilise the Public Service Commission and Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board for recruitment.
