Greater Noida, Sept 25: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made political stability a hallmark of governance, asserting that his three consecutive terms in office had enabled the Government to formulate policies, implement them on the ground and refine them based on experience.
Shah said the continuity in governance had helped create a stable policy environment and made India an attractive manufacturing destination for the world.
“Prime Minister Modi has made political stability his hallmark. By winning the people’s trust for three consecutive terms as Prime Minister, he has not only formulated policies but has also implemented them continuously on the ground,” Shah said.
“Along with putting policies into practice, Prime Minister Modi has refined them on the basis of experience and framed new policies, thereby making India an attractive manufacturing hub for the entire world,” he said.
Shah was speaking after inaugurating the fourth edition of the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show in Greater Noida, where Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and other dignitaries were present.
Linking policy continuity with India’s economic transformation, Shah said September 25 marked 12 years since Modi announced the “Make in India” mission.
He said the Centre and State governments had since worked together to make India a global hub of production, design and innovation.
“Make in India” had contributed to India’s emergence from the group of “Fragile 5” economies to the world’s top five economies, Shah said.
He said the country had maintained its growth momentum despite global upheaval and uncertainty, citing a 7.8 per cent growth rate in the latest quarter.
Shah said Moody’s had raised India’s growth forecast from 6 per cent to 7 per cent and cited an upgrade in India’s sovereign rating by Japan Credit Rating Agency from BBB+ to A-.
He also highlighted the expansion of India’s manufacturing and investment base, saying electronic exports had increased 11-fold compared to 2015.
He said 12 semiconductor projects across six States involved investments of more than Rs 1.64 lakh crore, while capital expenditure had crossed Rs 12.2 lakh crore.
Shah said a series of Free Trade Agreements had also expanded the export potential of Indian industries.
Turning to Uttar Pradesh, Shah said the State had emerged as an investment hub and could now set a target of becoming a $1-trillion economy.
He attributed the transformation to improvements in law and order, industrial policy, infrastructure and government facilitation, saying these were essential conditions for creating an investment-friendly environment.
The Home Minister said Uttar Pradesh, with a population of nearly 24 crore, had abundant water resources, land, skilled artisans and a growing industrial ecosystem.
He said the State’s transformation had also been reflected in the expansion of defence manufacturing.
Shah said the Defence Corridor, spread across Jhansi, Chitrakoot, Lucknow, Agra, Aligarh and Kanpur, had attracted investment and strengthened defence production.
He said India’s defence production had reached Rs 1.78 lakh crore and exports had increased 56 times compared to 2013-14, with Indian defence products now being exported to 80 countries.
He credited Uttar Pradesh with playing a significant role in the expansion, citing the State’s Defence Corridor and related infrastructure and policy initiatives.
Shah said the State’s economic transformation was also reflected in the shift from traditional informal industries and migration for employment towards manufacturing and local enterprise.
He highlighted the One District, One Product initiative, saying it had strengthened traditional crafts and small industries and created employment opportunities for young people.
He cited Bhadohi carpets, Moradabad brassware, Firozabad glass, Saharanpur woodcraft, Kannauj perfume and Banaras silk sarees as products that had acquired wider recognition.
Shah said the fourth edition of the trade show would further connect Uttar Pradesh’s producers with buyers from across the world.
He said the 2025 edition had attracted more than five lakh visitors, witnessed over 2,400 MoUs and brought investment worth thousands of crores of rupees to the State.
He expressed confidence that the 2026 edition would surpass last year’s record.
Shah also said infrastructure projects, including the Noida airport and expressways, had strengthened the State’s investment ecosystem.
He said the metro was now operational in seven Uttar Pradesh cities, the highest among States in the country.
The Home Minister said the Centre’s policy continuity and Uttar Pradesh’s industrial transformation would contribute to the broader objective of building a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047.
