The Union Territory reports one health institution for every 3,500 people as compared to one health institution for every 6,000 people in the country, says a report by the Health and Medical Education Department.
The UT is among the topmost States and Union Territories in terms of its health infrastructure, a people-centric approach that has had a positive impact on the healthcare scenario in the UT.

The healthcare facilities in Jammu and Kashmir, which are being provided with a sense of commitment and responsibility, have benefited innumerable people. Besides filling gaps in the healthcare delivery system, the availability of health institutions benefits people living in hilly terrains as well as in the interiors of the UT. It saves them from the trouble of travelling long distances and helps them get basic healthcare services within reach.
