Srinagar, September 17: Police have arrested nine alleged drug peddlers in separate operations across Anantnag, Sopore, Shopian, Pulwama and Kulgam, recovering charas, cannabis-like substances and ganja from their possession.
In Anantnag, police arrested Adil Ahmad Shah of Naibasti and Adil Ahmad Wani of Krangsoo during naka checking at Dugga Petrol Pump, Naibasti Khanabal. A total of 10.31 grams of charas was recovered from their possession.
In Sopore, police intercepted Zakir Rashid Lone of Wadoora during naka checking at Malgonipora and recovered contraband from his possession.
In Shopian, a police party from Police Post Keegam intercepted Ab Ahad Mochi of Audoora Rampathri during naka checking at Audoora Rampathri. A search of his nylon bag led to the recovery of 2.472 kg of crushed cannabis-like substance.
In Pulwama, three persons—Abrar Ahmad Yatoo of Sunchakoo Pulwama, Owais Ahmad Baba and Mudasir Ahmad Dar, both of Gulshanabad Rajpora—were apprehended during naka checking at the Old Bus Stand. Police recovered 286 grams of charas powder and 101.5 grams of charas-like substance from their possession.
Separately, at Newa, police apprehended Arshid Ahmad Ganaie of Chandgam while he was driving a Tata Ace Gold Load Carrier bearing registration number JK13K-3132. During his search, 22 grams of charas was recovered, and the vehicle was also seized.
In Kulgam, police arrested Ashfaq Ahmad Wani of Mirhama during naka checking at Amnoo and recovered 1.450 kg of ganja-like contraband and Rs 3,000 in cash, allegedly proceeds from narcotics.
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at the respective police stations, and investigations have been initiated to ascertain the source of the contraband and establish its forward and backward linkages.
Police said the operations are part of its sustained crackdown on drug trafficking and reiterated its zero-tolerance approach towards the illegal narcotics trade. It also appealed to the public to share information about drug peddling and substance abuse with the nearest police station.
