The announcement by Jammu & Kashmir government that the UT has been declared as ‘Fully Literate Union Territory’ is indeed a proud moment for all of us. It is a proud achievement for the people of J&K.
With 98.43 percent literacy rate, it reflects the dynamism and aspirations of our people. It is a feel good story for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
This is the fruit of the efforts of the people of Kashmir Valley as also the people of Jammu plains whose aspirations have come true after decades of deprivation. It is a proud moment for all of us in Jammu and Kashmir.
The ULLAS-Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram (NBSK)’s success makes it the biggest State or Union Territory to achieve this status with Jammu and Kashmir being placed at 10th position in the country.
The campaign focuses on making sure that every citizen who had missed out on schools gets foundational literacy and numeracy.
Door step survey has enabled identification of 7.58 lakh non-literate persons in the last 3 years. 5.84 lakh persons were prepared for Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Assessment Test (FLNAT) and out of these 5.53 lakh persons have qualified for FLNAT. This is indeed a proud achievement for all of us. It is a proud moment for all of us in Jammu and Kashmir.
This achievement is indeed a tribute to the tireless efforts of the teachers, officials, volunteers and common people of Jammu and Kashmir. The spirit of Jan Bhagidari has enabled spectacular results.
The dynamism and commitment of the government has enabled taking this initiative to the doorstep of every individual who missed out on education. It is through such commendable initiatives that Jammu and Kashmir has been able to achieve this enviable position.
It must also be mentioned that this achievement is a fitting tribute to the vision of the leaders of Jammu and Kashmir who had visualized providing education to people way back in the times when literacy rate in the state was barely 6 percent.
As the Chief Minister and other leaders have rightly said, it is just the beginning. The government is determined to make sure that literacy leads to making people learn more so that they have digital literacy and other skills for making the state a progressive and prosperous state.
We must all join hands to strive towards making Jammu and Kashmir a model state for peace and progress.
