Srinagar, Sept 1: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested two police officers, including the investigating officer of a case registered at Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh, after trapping one of them while accepting a Rs 15,000 bribe on behalf of the other in Srinagar.
According to the ACB, it received a written complaint alleging that PSI Karanjeet Singh, the investigating officer in FIR No. 65/2026 registered at Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh, had demanded illegal gratification for closing the case as “Not Admitted” between the parties.
The complainant alleged that the demand was conveyed through his accomplice, Sub-Inspector Ravi Jee Bhat, posted at the same police station.
ACB verification prima facie established the allegation of demand for illegal gratification.
A case, FIR No. 12/2026, was subsequently registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar under Sections 7 and 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 61(2) of the BNS.
During the investigation, the ACB constituted a trap team.
The team caught SI Ravi Jee Bhat red-handed while allegedly demanding and accepting Rs 15,000 from the complainant on behalf of PSI Karanjeet Singh.
The bribe amount was recovered from Bhat’s possession in the presence of independent witnesses, following which he was taken into custody.
The ACB subsequently arrested PSI Karanjeet Singh, describing him as the alleged co-conspirator in the case.
Further investigation is in progress, the bureau said.
