2 killed in separate accidents

Srinagar, Aug 19: Two people, including a 30-year-old motorcyclist and a 70-year-old woman, were killed in separate road accidents in north Kashmir on Wednesday, officials said.

In Bandipora, 30-year-old Yawar Ahmad Mir, a resident of Sumbanora, was killed after the motorcycle he was travelling on was hit by an unidentified vehicle at Main Market Hajin.

The accident also left his pillion rider, Abdul Rashid Makroo, 45, injured. Both were shifted to SDH Sumbal and later referred to SKIMS Soura for specialised treatment, where doctors declared Mir brought dead. Makroo is undergoing treatment.

Police have initiated an investigation into the accident.

In Sopore, a 70-year-old woman, identified as Azi Begum of Ningli, died after being hit by an Alto car near Sofi Akber Road at the Bypass.

Officials said the car was travelling from Sopore towards Bandipora when it struck the pedestrian. She was shifted to District Hospital Sopore but succumbed to her injuries during treatment.

Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated proceedings. (KNO)
