Srinagar: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will preside over the main Independence Day function at Srinagar’s Bakshi Stadium on Saturday as Jammu and Kashmir prepares to celebrate the nation’s 80th Independence Day with official functions across the Union Territory.
Officials said that Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary will lead the main Independence Day celebrations at Maulana Azad Stadium in Jammu.
The administration has finalised arrangements for the August 15 celebrations, with functions scheduled at district, sub-divisional and block levels across Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials said full-dress rehearsals have been conducted at major venues and all preparations, including arrangements for ceremonial parades and cultural programmes, have been completed ahead of the celebrations.
The administration has appealed to people across the Union Territory to participate in large numbers in the Independence Day functions being organised at various levels.
According to officials, public participation would add to the spirit of the national celebration and make the programmes more inclusive.
Authorities said all necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure the smooth conduct of the 80th Independence Day celebrations across Jammu and Kashmir. (KNO)
