New Delhi, Aug 12: DigiLocker has crossed 72.43 crore registered users, while the government’s UMANG platform has more than 11.66 crore registered users, reflecting the expanding use of digital platforms for accessing government services and documents, the Centre said on Wednesday.
As of July 31, 2026, 5,437 document types and services were available on DigiLocker, including 661 offered by the Central Government and 4,776 by State Governments.
DigiLocker recorded about 72.86 crore document-access transactions over the past three years, according to the government.
UMANG, or Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance, currently offers 2,575 government services across the country. Of these, 880 are Central Government services and 1,695 are State Government services.
The platform has recorded around 798 crore transactions over the last three years, underlining the growing use of mobile and web-based platforms for accessing public services.
The initiatives are part of the Digital India programme launched in July 2015 to expand digital access and improve citizen-centric service delivery.
The government has also expanded the network of Common Service Centres (CSCs) to improve access to digital services in rural, remote and underserved areas.
As of June 30, 2026, 4,07,122 CSCs were functional at the Gram Panchayat level, including 70,069 centres operated by women Village Level Entrepreneurs.
The CSC network provides a range of citizen-centric services, including government services, banking, financial and insurance services, pension-related services and utility payments.
The government said UMANG and DigiLocker are accessible through both mobile applications and web portals, allowing citizens to access services and documents without having to make physical visits to government offices.
The two platforms have also been integrated with key components of the country’s Digital Public Infrastructure, including Aadhaar, eSign and API Setu, enabling digital authentication, document verification and paperless service delivery.
DigiLocker facilitates secure digital document storage and verification, while consent-based sharing enables citizens to share documents electronically instead of relying on physical copies.
The government is also promoting digital literacy through initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan (PMGDISHA) and awareness campaigns aimed at increasing the adoption of digital services.
The platforms are being expanded with multilingual and accessibility features to make government services available to a wider section of the population.
Government departments and State Governments are continuing to onboard additional services and documents onto UMANG and DigiLocker, respectively, as part of efforts to widen the digital public service ecosystem.
The government said the expansion of these platforms is aimed at making public services more accessible, paperless and seamless, particularly for citizens in rural, remote and underserved areas.
