‘Artists’ custodians of region’s cultural identity’

Fraternity urges political parties to engage with artists

Srinagar, August 3: The artist fraternity of Jammu & Kashmir has urged all political parties to engage with artists like they regularly interact with delegations from various sections of society.

For decades, artists have been struggling with numerous long-pending issues affecting their welfare, livelihood, and the growth of the region’s cultural sector. Despite their immense contribution to preserving the rich cultural heritage of Jammu & Kashmir, their concerns have largely remained unheard.

As per a statement issued by a prominent artist, Waheed Jeelani, the fraternity has appealed to the leadership of all political parties to invite representatives of the artistic community for meaningful dialogue, understand their genuine concerns, and make sincere efforts to address their long-pending issues.

It emphasized that artists are not merely entertainers but the custodians of the region’s cultural identity and deserve equal recognition, respect, and attention in public policy and political discourse.
