Chairs high-level security review meeting
SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha chaired a high-level security review meeting Saturday.
The meeting was attended by Atal Dullo, Chief Secretary; Nalin Prabhat, DGP; Chandraker Bharti, Principal Secretary Home Department; S.J.M.Gillani, Special DG Coordination PHQ; Nitish Kumar, ADGP, CID; M Raju, Commissioner/Secretary, GAD; IGPs; Divisional Commissioners; SSPs, Deputy Commissioners and other senior officials.
The Lieutenant Governor directed all the Deputy Commissioners and SSPs to conduct a comprehensive review of the Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) established to protect laborers from outside Jammu Kashmir. He also directed that the employers must ensure all workers from other states and UTs of the country are provided insurance and that their details are registered with local police and district authorities.
“We must intensify precise, high-impact anti-terror operations to neutralise the terrorists,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
He instructed the authorities to ensure dignified last rites for the victims of the Kulgam terror attack and to provide all the support to bereaved families.
The meeting also discussed the security arrangements in place for the ongoing Shri Amarnathji Yatra and strengthening of the security grid.
The security meeting comes in the wake of the Kulgam attack on Friday.
The death toll in the attack in Kellam village of the district rose to two on Saturday as authorities said the second injured labourer from Chhattisgarh succumbed to critical injuries in a Srinagar hospital in the morning.
The deceased have been identified as Deepak Rattray (24), son of Uma Shankar, and Bopinder (28), son of Dasrar, both residents of Chhattisgarh working as migrant labourers in a brick kiln in Kellam village of Kulgam district.
Notably, soon after the terror attack on Friday LG Sinha had spoken with the Director General of Police, J&K, Nalin Prabhat and top security officials. He had directed the security forces to step up their operations and eliminate the terrorists.
The Lieutenant Governor wrote on X: “I spoke with the DGP, Shri Nalin Prabhat and top security officials following the brutal terrorist attack in Kulgam in which a labourer from Chhattisgarh was killed. I strongly condemn this cowardly act. I have directed our security forces to step up their operations and eliminate the terrorists.”
“My deepest condolences to the bereaved family. J&K administration and the entire nation stand with the families,” LG Sinha wrote.
