A digital dawn

The Digital India initiative has changed how services are delivered in the public sector, making the digital landscape available to the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh alike while creating unprecedented levels of transparency and easing access to millions of citizens.

It is the combination of the various government departments and institutions into modern digital systems which signals a paradigm shift for operational efficiency.

Jammu and Kashmir has effectively brought the entire digital infrastructure of 37 departments and institutions while Ladakh has connected the 10 most important departments and institutions for the purpose of public services delivery.

The use of technology to empower people has created a culture of self-sufficiency and digital inclusion in these beautiful but difficult-to-reach territories.

More than 37.90 lakh residents of Jammu and Kashmir are using DigiLocker for secure document storage while there are 39,029 users in Ladakh of the digital locker system.

With the help of DigiLocker, students, adults and elderly people can access their educational documents and identification documents at any time without the need to go to government institutions.

The use of digital technologies closes geographical gaps and allows citizens from the poorest rural areas and developed towns of the territory to have accessibility.

The concept behind Digital India goes much deeper than a mere policy; it is truly transforming the way residents of the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh perceive their own governance.

The mountainous terrain of the region may pose challenges, but the implementation of the Digital India initiative has ensured that connectivity reaches areas that were previously unconnected.

Thanks to this initiative, the country and automated technology are now available even in the most backward areas.

The project’s accomplishments prove that technology will continue transforming remote areas across the country by enabling the government to provide proper services to its citizens.
