The recent announcement of Lok Sabha of the Government of India signifies a milestone for the cooperative sector in the region of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh.
Based on the National Cooperative Database, as of July 15, 2026, there were 708 functional Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) in Jammu and Kashmir while Ladakh established 10 PACS being the newly created region.
These figures show that they reflect more than figures; they represent a large movement of bottom-up development for full rural empowerment and economic self-sufficiency.
In Jammu and Kashmir, these PACS provide direct assistance to farmers and give them quick access to short-term loans, quality seed, and other agricultural inputs.

Thanks to technological centralization, the PACS can turn into the technological clusters through the use of the enterprise resource planning (ERP) system allowing them to operate with maximum transparency.
Apart from the credits provided by PACS, they can work as Jan Aushadhi Kendras, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samriddhi Kendras, and drone service centres giving various services to their customers directly.
The aforementioned measures create a basis for different economic endeavors such as cooperative marketing and distribution of products produced locally.
