Drass, Jul 25: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday said the Indian Armed Forces are fully prepared to counter any security challenge, asserting that the government has strengthened the military through modernisation, advanced equipment and a focus on self-reliance, as he addressed troops during the Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorations in Drass.
Singh reached Drass by road after adverse weather prevented his scheduled helicopter journey from Srinagar. He had arrived at Srinagar International Airport earlier in the day, where he was received by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and senior civil and security officials before proceeding to the Kargil War Memorial.
Addressing soldiers, Singh said India continues to face security challenges, with adversaries resorting to proxy warfare and infiltration, but assured that the armed forces are fully prepared to respond to any threat.
He said the government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has prioritised military modernisation to ensure soldiers are equipped to meet evolving security requirements.
“The effort is to ensure that our soldiers receive the best weapons, the best equipment and the best training in the world,” Singh said, praising the armed forces for staying ahead by adopting new technologies and innovations.
The Defence Minister lauded the courage and dedication of Indian soldiers, saying their bravery is recognised both nationally and internationally. He described the spirit and determination displayed by the troops as “unparalleled” and “incomparable”.
Assuring the armed forces of the government’s continued support, Singh said it remained committed to the welfare and well-being of soldiers, just as they remained committed to safeguarding the nation.
Highlighting India’s push for self-reliance in defence, he expressed confidence that the country’s armed forces would emerge among the world’s strongest military forces in the coming years.
He also praised the resilience of troops serving in difficult conditions, saying their inner strength, self-confidence and patriotism enable them to overcome every challenge and ensure the country’s citizens live securely and pursue their aspirations without fear.
The Defence Minister attended the Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorations at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass, where the nation paid homage to soldiers who laid down their lives during the 1999 Kargil War.
The annual event was attended by senior military commanders, veterans, families of martyrs, civil dignitaries and government representatives to commemorate India’s victory in the Kargil conflict and honour the courage and sacrifice of the armed forces.
