Pahalgam, July 11: A cloudburst in the upper reaches of Chitergul on Saturday triggered flash floods in Nallah Arpat Chittergul Shangus , while another cloudburst led to a sudden surge in Nallah Avoora in Pahalgam.
Officials said that all concerned departments have been alerted and are on high alert. Rescue and monitoring teams have been deployed in vulnerable areas to assess the situation.
In Pahalgam, tourists remained safe inside a hotel along the Pahalgam shore after the surge in Nallah Avoora created panic in the area. Authorities said the situation is being continuously monitored and damage assessment is underway.
There were no reports of any loss of life or property damage till the filing of this report.
The administration has urged residents and visitors to stay away from the banks of nallahs and rivers and to take necessary safety measures while moving anywhere close to Nallah Arpat. People have also been asked to follow official safety advisories in view of the inclement weather. (GNS)
