New Delhi, July 3: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has enabled Aadhaar holders to add or update their email ID directly through the Aadhaar App free of cost, eliminating the need to visit an Aadhaar enrolment centre.
The facility, available from July 1 for six months, is aimed at making Aadhaar services more accessible as part of the government’s Digital India initiative.
UIDAI said more than 2.5 lakh people updated their email addresses within two days of the launch of the service.
Linking an email ID with Aadhaar enables users to receive real-time notifications whenever Aadhaar authentication is carried out, improving transparency and providing an additional layer of security.
The authority said the Aadhaar App already allows users to update their mobile numbers and addresses from their smartphones.
According to UIDAI, over 40 lakh users have updated their mobile numbers through the app, while nearly 10 lakh have used it to update their addresses.
UIDAI has urged residents to download or update the Aadhaar App to avail the free email update facility during the six-month window.
