Sopore, June 29: Security forces on Monday recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a joint search operation in the Warpora area of north Kashmir’s Sopore, officials said.
The recovery was made during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) launched jointly by the Army, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) following specific information received from local residents.
During the operation, the joint team recovered one AK-47 rifle, three hand grenades, one Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL) and 30 rounds of ammunition concealed at the site.
The recovered arms and ammunition were seized, while a case has been registered and further investigation has been initiated to ascertain the source of the weapons and those responsible for concealing them.
Officials said the recovery has thwarted the possible use of the weapons and explosives for unlawful activities and forms part of the security forces’ sustained efforts to dismantle militant support networks in the region. [KNT]
