5 booked in migrant land fraud case

Srinagar, June 19: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch has booked five persons in connection with an alleged land fraud involving migrant property in Baramulla district and conducted a house search in Budgam as part of the investigation.

According to officials, the search was carried out at Banit Beerwah in Budgam in connection with an FIR registered at Police Station EOW Kashmir under relevant sections of law.

The case pertains to the alleged fraudulent sale of migrant land measuring 14 kanals and three marlas at Goshbugh Pattan in Baramulla district. Investigators said the land was allegedly sought to be sold through fake agreements, fraudulent means and criminal conspiracy.

During the investigation, Crime Branch found the involvement of five accused persons who allegedly duped the complainant of crores of rupees on the pretext of selling the land without the consent of its actual owner.

The house search was conducted as part of further investigation into the case, officials said.

Further investigation is underway.

The Crime Branch has advised the public to remain vigilant against economic frauds and report such incidents to the Senior Superintendent of Police, EOW Kashmir. Victims of economic fraud can also submit complaints through the official email of the Economic Offences Wing, officials added.
