Leopard dies of electrocution

Kupwara, May 1: A leopard died after being electrocuted in the Renan area of Qaziabad in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Friday.

Officials said the animal had climbed a Chinar tree when it came into contact with a live 11,000-volt electric line passing through the area.

The leopard suffered a fatal shock and died on the spot, they said.

The incident has raised concerns over the presence of high-voltage power lines in areas frequented by wildlife, particularly in forest fringes where such encounters are not uncommon. (KNT)
