Development of regulations for the Jammu and Kashmir Private Universities Act has begun and it represents a historic moment for education within the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir
The Govenment of Jammu and Kashmir’s proactive approach toward establishing competition, quality, and modernity into higher education represents a significant paradigm shift.
Public institutions across this region have long been overwhelmed by the demand for specialized, employment-based education.
Implementing private investment via a defined regulatory construct represents more than simply adding additional physical space; it is an expansion of the capability for young people to pursue their dreams.
The act will bring forth new possibilities for private investments and the addition of professors with world-class education and modern curricula based on global industry requirements.
In addition, implementation regulations will provide robust mechanisms to promote growth in an orderly fashion using quality control and national educational standards.
This act will allow established and reputable post-secondary educational entities to establish facilities in Jammu and Kashmir resulting in the opportunity for post-secondary students to attend closer to their homes, creating a decline in the current trend of outmigration for post-secondary education.
The initiative will stimulate the local economy by creating local employment opportunities with the addition of private universities along with stimulating the ancillary businesses that support private institutions and fostering a culture of research and innovation in Jammu and Kashmir.
This initiative represents a move towards the future to support the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. It is expected to improve the gross enrolment ratios.
In addition, through aligning educational requirements with industry needs, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir is creating a knowledge economy for its students.
As such, they are supporting academic institutions to develop skilled workers so that they can contribute to the state’s economy and provide better opportunities for themselves and their families.
