The Jammu & Kashmir Government’s announcement to incorporate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the school system is much more than just a new piece of information; it actually defines a significant step into the future.
The Government will provide students of Jammu & Kashmir with the ability to learn computational thinking and AI during their formative years – thus preparing them to function in an extremely fast-changing technological landscape.
With the addition of AI in the curriculum for students in the formative years of their education, the Government is demonstrating its desire to establish equity in education so that the youth of Jammu & Kashmir will not be excluded from the global AI revolution.
Early AI education will help students become problem-solvers and innovators rather than simply being consumers of technology.
This initiative takes a very different approach to the way we have traditionally taught students how to think critically, creatively, and digitally.
By understanding how algorithms affect the technology we use every day, and figuring out how to use the technology to solve problems, the students will have an understanding of the basic principles of the world and how it works.
Providing students with AI knowledge will also give them basic knowledge and skills for jobs that do not exist today – creating a direct link between student learning and future job opportunities.
J&K’s youth should have access to education opportunities which will provide them greater access to good jobs today, as well as create new economic growth opportunities for the region through Data Science and Machine Learning.
The fact that it is an inclusive announcement is a testament to this government’s intent to foster an inclusive community.
In addition to implementing additional smart classrooms and digital literacy, they are also bringing AI into the education space in order to provide equitable access to education throughout the entire UT and across the nation, while using AI for Public Good to ensure all students have the same opportunity for success, regardless of where they live.
Educators and others in our educational systems can use AI along with traditional forms of education to help students learn how to navigate our digital world and be responsible users of technology.
This government’s foresight in embedding AI into our education system will provide J&K with future leaders, visionaries, and innovators who are ready to lead.
