The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden in Srinagar is once again demonstrating itself to be one of India’s jewels of tourism by establishing a new record during its opening period.
During the first 15 days of the 2026 season alone, the garden has experienced an unprecedented amount of visitation, as evidenced by the original number of 177,869 visitors, indicating a tremendous influx of interest in the unmatched beauty of Kashmir during spring.
The remarkable milestone achieved by the garden has been confirmed to be based on the vast majority of sales being made through offline ticketing. This accomplishment is demonstrative of the popularity of the extremely large number (1.8 million) of tulips in bloom (representing over 70 different varieties) along the foothills of the Zabarwan range.
What gives additional weight to the first week of the season statistics is that they will continue to climb very significantly as more visitors buy tickets online.
Current data is still in the process of being compiled as the online ticketing data has simply not yet been included in the totals and should greatly increase the visitor count.
As the flowers peak in bloom will occur just as interest in them is building, there is every reason to believe the total for the visitor count will exceed historical levels and further establish this garden as the premier spring tourist destination in all of Asia.
The very large number of visitors to the garden, from domestic tourism and international tourism as well as local citizens, all demonstrate a strong and thriving tourism industry in the union state of Jammu and Kashmir.
The careful preparations made by the Floriculture Department (e.g. improvement of facilities, overload management) of the Tulips provided visitors with the ability to view the unbelievable beauty of the garden, which has a view of the famous Dal Lake, in a comfortable and festive environment.
This is the first success story for the Tulip Garden and is not only due to the numbers; but represents the resilient people and beautiful landscapes of Kashmir and the confidence that is building in Kashmir as a destination on the world tourist stage.
The Tulip Garden’s success over the first 15 days is an excellent indicator that the KASHMIR tourism season of 2026 is going to be the highest ever.
