PMBJAY helps save Rs 40,000 cr: Shah

New Delhi, Mar 7: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Friday said the Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Yojana has helped citizens save more than ₹40,000 crore on medicines, significantly reducing healthcare expenses for millions of families across the country.

Extending greetings on Jan Aushadhi Diwas 2026, Shah said the initiative of the Government of India has emerged as a historic step in making medicines affordable and promoting awareness about generic drugs.

In a post on X, the Home Minister said that nearly 18,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras are currently operational across the country, providing quality medicines at affordable prices to the poor and needy.

He said the scheme has played a crucial role in easing the financial burden of healthcare on citizens by ensuring access to low-cost medicines nationwide.
