Srinagar, February 20: Continuing its firm action against drug trafficking and substance abuse, J&K Police on Friday said to have arrested three drug peddlers in separate operations in Budgam & Sopore and seized substantial quantities of contraband substances from their possession.
In Budgam, a police team from Police Station Magam, led by ASI Tariq Ahmad during routine patrolling at Batapora, Kanahama, intercepted two suspicious individuals. They have been identified as Mohammad Shafi Bhat, son of Abdul Ahad Bhat, resident of Batapora Kanahama, and Ubaid Farooq Bhat, son of Farooq Ahmad Bhat, resident of Agrikalan Magam, a police spokesman said.
During the search, approximately 1 kg 188 grams of a semi-grinded charas-like substance was recovered from Mohammad Shafi Bhat, while 522 grams of a similar substance was recovered from Ubaid Farooq Bhat and both accused have been arrested, police said.
In Sopore, a police party of Police Post Watergam intercepted a suspicious person coming from Behrampora towards Watergam. During the search, charas-like substance was recovered from his possession and the accused was arrested on the spot. He has been identified as Jafar Zahoor Mir, son of Zahoor Ahmad Mir, resident of Behrampora Rafiabad.
Accordingly, police said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated.
J&K Police reiterated their zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and reaffirmed their commitment to sustained, intelligence-driven action to protect youth and society from the scourge of drugs. “The general public is urged to cooperate and share information to help eradicate the drug menace from society.”
