Republic Day: LG Sinha to take salute at MA Stadium

Jammu, Jan 8: The government of Jammu and Kashmir has announced that the main function of Republic Day 2026 will be held at Maulana Azad Stadium in Jammu, where the Lieutenant Governor will preside over the celebrations and take the salute.

According to a circular issued by the General Administration Department, Civil Secretariat, Jammu and Kashmir, all officers and officials of the government as well as employees of public sector undertakings stationed in Jammu have been directed to attend the Republic Day function as part of their official duty.

The circular further states that all Heads of Departments and Chief Executives of public sector undertakings shall ensure not only their own participation but also the presence of employees working under their control during the function.

The directions have been issued to ensure smooth conduct and full participation in the Republic Day celebrations, marking the 76th Republic Day of the country.

The Beating Retreat ceremony, held as part of the Republic Day celebrations, will take place on January 29, 2026, at 4:30 pm at Maulana Azad Stadium, Jammu. Government officers and officials posted in Jammu have been directed to attend the ceremony, while departmental heads have been asked to ensure participation of their staff.

To ensure smooth and peaceful celebrations, police and security forces have been put on alert across Jammu and Kashmir, including Jammu, Srinagar and other districts. Additional checkpoints have been set up, and checking operations have been intensified across the Union Territory.

Security arrangements have also been strengthened along the Line of Control and the International Border, especially in sensitive areas.

Meanwhile, in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, police have intensified checking and search operations along the Srinagar–Jammu National Highway in the Qazigund area. The measures are aimed at ensuring public safety and maintaining law and order ahead of the Republic Day celebrations.

Police officials said that senior officers are closely monitoring the security situation to ensure a safe and secure environment for the national celebrations. (KNT/KNS)
