A progressive step

The Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education has taken a giant leap towards updating its educational landscape with the decision to put an end to granting students that have not passed or completed their exams under the old curriculum another chance to do so.

While this change has been prompted by the need for the School Board to stay aligned with the ever-changing world of education, it will not be an adverse consequence of a discipline or punishment on the part of the School Board.

As long as the Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education (JKBOSE) was operating under the old curriculum, it has operated with the highest levels of empathy and understanding

It has provided its failing and/or re-appearing students with multiple opportunities to re-take their exams.

As the Board provided these students with multiple opportunities to succeed, it has done so knowing that these students had made a considerable investment of time and effort while studying and preparing for their exams under the old curriculum.

By providing these opportunities to re-take exams, the Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education has also taken the time to recognize and acknowledge the accomplishments of these students.

Education is continually evolving, and therefore, does not remain static.

All educational curricula have developed for a specific purpose, and their development is limited by the specific educational needs of a given period.

The old curriculum had served its purpose, and according to JKSBOSE’s own policies, the expiration date of that curriculum has long since passed.

Standardizing and aligning the education of all students to the new curriculum creates clarity and consistency in the assessment process for all students and allows for the effective use of teaching resources.

This also provides for parity in the grading and assessing of academic achievement, therefore creating a more efficient administrative structure.
