Shopian, December 27: Continuing its sustained drive against drug trafficking, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday said to have arrested a drug peddler in Shopian and recovered contraband substance from his possession.
A police party from Police Post Keegam during naka checking at Haji Check crossing intercepted a suspicious person. During the search, charas-like substance weighing approximately 896 grams were recovered from his possession, a police spokesman said.
He has been identified as Shamim Ahmad Bhat resident of Poterwal Keegam. He has been arrested and accordingly, a case FIR No. 275/2025 under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Shopian and investigation has been initiated.
Meanwhile, the statement reads that J&K Police remains firmly committed to eradicating the drug menace from the district and appeals to the public to cooperate by reporting any information regarding drug peddling or other anti-social activities to the nearest police station.
