Govt keenly focused on accelerating development: Dy CM

SRINAGAR: Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Choudhary, Tuesday called for expeditious and quality infrastructure development across Jammu and Kashmir.

The Deputy Chief Minister, while chairing a high level review meeting at Civil Secretariat, Srinagar, assessed progress on ongoing works being executed under Capex Budget 2025–26 of the PWD (R&B) Kashmir Division. He emphasised timely completion of all ongoing developmental projects in the region.

Senior officers including the Chief Engineer PMGSY Kashmir, Chief Engineer PWD Central/South/North Kashmir, Chief Engineer Mechanical Engineering & Hospitality Department Kashmir, Superintending Engineers of PMGSY, PWD, MEHD Kashmir and Executive Engineers of the concerned wings attended the meeting while officers based in Jammu participated virtually.

The Deputy Chief Minister conducted a comprehensive review of roads, bridges, PMGSY and other connectivity-related works presently underway across Kashmir Division.

He issued strict directions for speeding up execution of all ongoing projects, ensuring timely clearance of bottlenecks to achieve the targets within the stipulated timelines. He asserted that timely completion of projects must remain the top priority, underscoring that infrastructure development plays a pivotal role in boosting connectivity, improving public convenience and enhancing overall socio-economic growth.

He directed all the engineering wings to intensify monitoring, maintain strict adherence to technical standards and ensure that ongoing works are executed in a transparent, efficient and result-oriented manner.

The Deputy Chief Minister added that the government is keenly focused on accelerating development, with special emphasis on high-quality public infrastructure.

The Deputy Chief Minister also highlighted the need for early completion of rural connectivity works under PMGSY, timely maintenance of road infrastructure before winter intensifies and efficient functioning of mechanical engineering services.

Inspects progress on Seerbagh–Sempora Bridge

Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Choudhary, Tuesday inspected ongoing construction work on Seerbagh- Sempora Bridge in Chadoora, a key project aimed at strengthening the connectivity for various villages of Chadoora Constituency of Budgam district.

The Deputy Chief Minister was accompanied by MLA Chadoora, Ali Mohammad Dar and senior officers from the concerned departments.

The bridge, comprising 2 spans of 25 metres and 1 span of 55 metres, has a total length of 106 metre. The project has been sanctioned at a cost of Rs. 200 lakh, out of which, Rs. 100 lakh have been spent on various components of the project. The stipulated timeline for its completion is December 2025.

During the inspection, the Deputy Chief Minister reviewed the ongoing work components including fabrication, sub-structure development and overall project progress. He directed the executing agencies to expedite the pace of work, maintain quality standards and ensure that the project is completed well within the set timeline.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the bridge is an important connectivity project that will significantly facilitate the movement between Chadoora areas of Budgam including Summerbugh, Shilana, Tengan, Seerbagh and  various localities of Pulwama and Srinagar districts.

He added that once completed, the bridge will greatly ease transportation, improve accessibility to essential services, and boost socio-economic activities in the region.

Ensuring the government’s focus on speedy infrastructure development, the Deputy Chief Minister said that, “the government is fully committed towards ensuring swift and efficient execution of all ongoing development projects. Every effort is being made to complete public infrastructure works in the shortest possible time so that people can benefit at the earliest.”

The Deputy Chief Minister also interacted with the engineers and field staff, urging them to redouble efforts and ensure adherence to quality and safety norms throughout the execution process.
