Illegal rebranding of Govt-issued rice busted: Police

Awantipora, October 03: In a major action against illegal trade practices, Police in Awantipora on Friday said to have received credible information regarding unlawful rebranding of government-issued rice at Shaltokuna Awantipora.
Acting promptly on the information, a police team led by Inspector Ajaz Hmad and Inspector Bilal Ahmad conducted a raid at the identified location, a police spokesman said.
During the operation, a vehicle (Tata Mobile) bearing registration number JK06-5469 was intercepted and seized. On inspection, the vehicle was found loaded with 80 bags of rice deceptively packed in apple-branded bags, 37 additional rice bags, along with other incriminating articles.
The accused, involved in the commission of crime has been identified as Fayaz Ahmad Dar son of Ab. Aziz Dar resident of Shaltokuna, police said, adding that accordingly, a case under FIR number 207/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Awantipora.
Meanwhile, J&K Police reiterated its commitment to act firmly against black-marketing, hoarding, and illegal profiteering that exploits public distribution supplies meant for the common people.
