Govt committed to welfare of migrants: Karwani

JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 27: Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (M), J&K Dr. Arvind Karwani, inaugurated a mega health camp at the migrant camp in Nagrota, Saturday.

The free multi-specialty medical camp was organized in collaboration with People’s Hut Foundation, a national-level NGO. Free health check-up, eye testing & screening, dental services, free ortho & physiotherapy and medical consultation were provided through specialist doctors. Free Ayush and allopathic medicines were distributed to the patients in the camp. State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (STTO), J&K, functioning under the National Organ Transplant Programme (NOTP), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India, also created awareness about its initiatives.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Karwani emphasized the importance of organizing more such special health camps for the underprivileged sections of society living in migrant camps. Regarding the organ donation work of STTO, he underlined the importance of saving and transforming lives by providing life-saving organs and tissues to those with end-stage organ failure and other conditions, restoring their quality of life.

Later, an awareness camp was held to promote social sector schemes and encourage the beneficiaries to avail the benefits, after integration of migrant ration cards on the National Food Security Act (NFSA) database. The integration has recently been started and more than 3,000  of migrant ration cards  have been punched on the portal to date.
Later, a public grievance redressal camp was held under the chairmanship of Dr. Karwani at the Community Hall, Nagrota. The camp provided a platform to residents to raise day-to-day issues and seek redressal.

Dr. Karwani also reviewed the progress of development activities in the camps and impressed upon the concerned officers to ensure the timely completion of works within the stipulated time frame. He noted the issues raised by the camp inmates and reiterated the Government’s commitment to the welfare and rehabilitation of the migrants.
