Wild cannabis destroyed in Ganderbal, Budgam

Srinagar, Jul 25: In its unwavering fight against the menace of drug abuse, police in Ganderbal in collaboration with civil society members and students launched a comprehensive anti-drug campaign in the jurisdiction of Police Station Kheerbawani.

As part of the campaign, a large-scale Wild Cannabis (Bhung) destruction drive was carried out at Sehpora and Kurag areas.

The drive was conducted under the directions of SSP Ganderbal Khalil Ahmad Poswal and led by SHO PS Kheerbawani along with dedicated police teams.

Students from various schools actively participated, demonstrating strong public involvement in the cause.

In addition to the destruction drive, awareness rallies and debate competitions were also organized to sensitize the youth and local residents about the harmful effects of drug abuse.

The events witnessed enthusiastic participation from school students and members of the community, showcasing a united front against narcotic threats.

Police in Budgam along with Revenue and Excise Department also conducted a large-scale destruction drive of wild cannabis (bhung) in the Charar-e-Sharief area of District Budgam.

The drive was conducted under the directions of SSP Budgam Nikhil Borkar and was led by the SHO Police Station Charar-e-Sharief, with active participation from officials of the Police, Revenue and Excise Departments.

Local youth also joined the campaign, demonstrating strong community engagement and awareness against drug-related threats. A significant quantity of wild cannabis was destroyed during the operation.

Police have reiterated firm commitment to building a drug-free society and urges the general public to support this noble mission.

“Citizens are requested to share any information regarding illegal cultivation of cannabis or poppy with the police so that strict legal action can be initiated against the offenders.”
