Kashmir shouldn’t be turned into alcohol haven: CSFK

Srinagar, Feb 16: Civil Society Forum Kashmir (CSFK) on Sunday expressed huge concern over unabated availability of alcohol across Jammu & Kashmir.
In a statement issued, the CSFK said that thousands of youth and other age groups are being spoiled at an alarming rate by policy of easy availability of alcohol across Jammu & Kashmir.
At the same time when many states in the country are being turned into non-alcoholic states while on other hand no effort is being left to ensure easy and free availability of alcohol in Jammu & Kashmir, it reads.
“Jammu & Kashmir is already struggling with a huge number of drug addicts in recent times, easy availability of alcohol is proving disastrous. Jammu & Kashmir police have taken ample steps to curb supply of heroin and other forms of drug addiction but unfortunately now addicts are shifting from heroin to huge consumption of alcohol as per the doctors,” the CSFK said.
Civil Society Forum Kashmir appealed to the government and society at large to ensure Kashmir which is considered heaven on earth should not be turned into an alcohol haven. Alcohol consumption brings in huge challenges for society like domestic violence, thefts, crimes and heath deterioration of youths at an alarming rate.
Civil Society Forum Kashmir also appealed to the government in particular and public at large to ensure a curb on mushroom growth of alcohol shops across Jammu & Kashmir.
