Drug menace worse than liquor: Dy CM

Anantnag: Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chaudhary on Saturday raised alarm over the rising drug abuse in the Union Territory, emphasizing that it poses a far greater threat than liquor consumption.
“Liquor ban is fine; we’ve been debating it for a long time. But the real focus should be on combating the rampant drug abuse that is gripping society,” Chaudhary told reporters.
He highlighted the alarming spread of heroin abuse, which, according to him, was nearly nonexistent in J&K a few years ago but has now become a widespread crisis.
“The situation is dire. Law enforcement must step up efforts to curb this menace that is eating away at society,” he stressed, adding that public awareness and collective responsibility are equally crucial in tackling the issue. (KINS)
