Illicit timber seized, 3 arrested: Police

Baramulla, Jan 03: In a significant operation to curb illegal timber smuggling, police in Baramulla on Friday said to have seized illicit timber by arresting three accused persons involved in the commission of crime.

A police party intercepted a vehicle (Tata 207) carrying nine timber logs at Drung Crossing during naka checking. During questioning, it was revealed that the vehicle was transporting timber without the necessary permissions, a police spokesman said.

Subsequently, the vehicle along with the illicit timber has been seized and the three individuals involved in the commission of crime have been arrested on the spot. They have been identified as Mehraj Ahmad Khan son of Ab Majeed Khan resident of NowgamKhag, Mohammed Amin Lone son of Ab Gaffar Lone resident of Drung and Owais Ahmad Parrey son of Ab AhadParrey resident of SoibughBudgam.

Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 01/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Tangmarg and further investigation has been initiated.

This action reflects the commitment of Police to protect the natural resources and crack down on illegal activities. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious activities related to forest produce to the nearest police station, police said.
