Chadoora: The police solved a theft case within hours by arresting a local, who had looted cash from the room of the Imam of Jamia Masjid Gopalpora Chadoora in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district during Fajr prayers.
The incident came to light when Muhammad Ashraf Naik, the Imam of the mosque and a resident of Mahu Banihal, filed a complaint at the Mouchewa Police Post on December 29. Naik reported that while he was leading prayers, an unknown thief entered his room and stole cash.
Acting promptly, a police team led by Muhammad Adil Tak, in charge of PP Mochewa, and supervised by SDPO Charar-i-Sharief Owais Ahmad Wani, initiated an investigation.
Through intelligence inputs and swift action, the team identified and detained suspects for questioning. One of them, Umar Farooq Shah, a resident of Zoolwah Gopalpora, confessed to the crime. Upon his disclosure, the stolen cash, amounting to Rs 22,220, was recovered from his possession.
The residents of the area, particularly the Masjid Committee, commended the quick and effective response of the Budgam Police in resolving the case and recovering the stolen money. (KNT)
