Apni Party to support Taj Mohiuddin in Uri

PDP withdraws, tfield its candidate

Srinagar: The Altaf Bukhari-led Apni Party has announced its support for independent candidate Taj Mohiuddin in the Uri constituency. The announcement was made during a joint press conference in Srinagar on Monday.

Speaking at the press conference, Altaf Bukhari stressed the importance of supporting a candidate who is dedicated to the welfare and development of the valley. He expressed confidence in Taj Mohiuddin’s ability to effectively represent the people of Uri. “We will work with independent candidates whenever it is necessary for the public’s benefit,” Bukhari stated.

In response to a question about accusations that the parties are proxies of the BJP, Bukhari criticized Mehbooba Mufti for frequently changing her stance. He added that the Apni Party does not wish to make the elections contentious by speaking against anyone. “We don’t want to discuss A, B, or C teams here. If we do, then NC and PDP would be in the A+ category, and we would be A-,” he said.

Taj Mohiuddin, while thanking the Apni Party for its support, clarified that he has not contacted the Congress leadership since resigning from the DPAP led by Ghulam Nabi Azad.

Meanwhile, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has withdrawn its support for senior leader Taj Mohi u Din in Uri constituency after Apni Party extended its support to him.

The PDP states that it will now field their own candidate for the upcoming elections from Uri constituency.

Confirming the development to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), PDP’s Mohammad Rafique Rather said that they are ideologically apart from the Apni Party.

It has became natural for them to withdraw the support after Apni Party announced its support to him.

“In view of Apni party extending support to Taj Mohuddin in Uri constituency, PDP has decided to withdraw its support to him and put out party’s own candidate,” PDP wrote in a post on X.

Reacting to PDP’s decision, Taj Mohi u Din said that it was their wish to support him, and it is their wish to withdraw. “I had already informed PDP during the press conference that the Apni Party was supporting me,” he said.
