Secy tours Jammu city; reviews H&UDD’s working 

Directs for speeding up pace of work

Jammu, Feb 15: Commissioner Secretary of the Housing and Urban Development Department (H&UDD), MandeepKaur, conducted an extensive tour of Jammu city today, inspecting ongoing works under the Jammu Smart City project, as well as assets of the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and UEED at Kala Kendra and Bhagwati Nagar.

Accompanied by Rahul Yadav, JMC Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Jammu Smart City project, Chief Engineer UEED Nasser Kakroo, and officers of JSCL, JMC, and UEED, MandeepKaur visited the newly constructed repository under the Smart Cities Mission by Jammu Smart City Limited at Kala Kendra. She received a briefing from the CEO of Jammu Smart City about the completed work and readiness for inauguration.

Additionally, she visited the electric bus depot at Bhagwati Nagar, reviewing the progress of e-buses in Jammu. The CEO of Smart City assured the operation of all 9-meter intra-city route buses by the end of February 2024 and 12-meter inter-district buses by mid-March 2024. Representatives from TATA and Chalo demonstrated the features of e-buses along with the CHALO online app for live tracking and ticket booking.

The CEO highlighted that the e-buses are equipped with cameras and two-way communication devices for remote monitoring from the Command-and-Control Center. MandeepKaur directed implementing agencies to expedite pending works at depots and opportunity charging sites for smooth operation of electric buses and to increase ridership for the benefit of daily commuters in Jammu city.

Later, she inspected various projects under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), including Transfer Station, eGarbage vehicle charging station, and Material Recovery Facility (MRF) at Bhagwati Nagar. The JMC Commissioner briefed her on efforts to improve waste collection and disposal.

The Commissioner Secretary directed officers to ensure 100% door-to-door coverage and regular monitoring of sanitation activities for better cleanliness. The tour concluded with a visit to the Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant (FSTP) and Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in Bhagwati Nagar. The Chief Engineer UEED explained the working of FSTP and STP and operation issues. MandeepKaur directed proper utilization of FSTP and STP and reuse of treated water and sludge for JMC parks, gardens, or irrigation.

During the tour, she emphasized strict adherence to quality parameters and full utilization of created assets. Joint Commissioner (H&S), Joint Commissioner (Works), GM (Operation), GM (Finance) eBus operations, and Executive Engineer UEED were also present.
