Srinagar district emerges as shining example of cleanliness and sanitation

Srinagar:  In a remarkable achievement, Srinagar district in Jammu and Kashmir has emerged as a shining example of cleanliness and sanitation by achieving the ODF+ Modal Status under the Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0 (SBM-2.0). This accomplishment has garnered widespread praise, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulating the J&K administration for its dedication and commitment to improving sanitation and hygiene in the region.
Notably, the ODF+ Modal Status, which stands for Open Defecation Free Plus, is a significant milestone under the SBM-2.0 initiative. It signifies not only the absence of open defecation but also the adoption of advanced sanitation practices, effective solid waste management, and overall cleanliness in the district.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, recognizing the exceptional efforts put forth in achieving this status, awarded Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad, with the Certificate of Achievement.
An official while talking to Precious Kashmir said, “The achievement of ODF+ Modal Status in Srinagar district is a testament to the dedication and relentless efforts of the local administration. It reflects the success of a comprehensive approach that involved not only constructing toilets but also creating awareness about the importance of sanitation, ensuring proper waste disposal, and maintaining cleanliness in public areas.”
“The ODF+ Modal Status is not just a symbolic achievement but also signifies improved health and sanitation standards in the district. It has a direct impact on the overall well-being of the residents, particularly in preventing waterborne diseases and promoting a clean and hygienic environment,” he added.
“This achievement is the result of the tireless collective work put in by the officials, the residents, and the vision of the government. Administration is committed to maintaining and improving upon our sanitation standards to ensure a healthier and cleaner Srinagar,” the official said.
An observer said, “Srinagar’s accomplishment in achieving ODF+ Modal Status is a shining example of how a focused approach towards sanitation and hygiene can lead to transformative change in a region. It serves as an inspiration not only to other districts in Jammu and Kashmir but also to the entire nation, highlighting the importance of cleanliness and its positive impact on society and public health.”
