Srinagar: Work on developing one hundred sports centre across Jammu and Kashmir is going on at a rapid pace.
An official while talking to Precious Kashmir said, “It’s a leap towards developing world class sports infrastructure in J&K. Separate funds under the Prime Minister’s Development Program have been allocated to J&K. Each district in the region has been provided with an indoor sports stadium during the past few years. Not only Khelo India, but multi-sports indoor stadiums have come up at different places. All other required infrastructure has been developed in nook and corner of the Union Territory.”
“One hundred sports centres were awarded to J&K and five each are coming up in each district. These will be the highest number of Khelo India centers across the country,” the official added.
He said, “The decision to award such a substantial number of sports centers to Jammu and Kashmir reflects the government’s recognition of the importance of sports in the overall development of individuals and communities. The provision of adequate sporting facilities is crucial in nurturing and honing young talent, providing them with opportunities to excel in various disciplines.”
According to the observers, the new sports centers would bring about a transformative change in the sports landscape of J&K. “With five centers dedicated to each district, athletes and sports enthusiasts from far-flung areas will have improved access to state-of-the-art facilities to train and showcase their skills. This decentralization of sporting resources is encouraging talent from all corners of J&K to emerge and flourish, ultimately contributing to the overall progress of the region,” they said.
Pertinently, apart from promoting sporting excellence, these centers will also help in creating a culture of fitness and well-being among the people of Jammu and Kashmir. With a growing concern about lifestyle diseases and sedentary habits, the provision of top-notch sports infrastructure will motivate individuals to engage in physical activities, leading to a healthier and more active population.
A sportsperson said, “The news sports centers have also opened new employment avenues for creating local employment opportunities. The establishment and maintenance of these centers will require skilled personnel, including coaches, trainers, and facilities managers. This infusion of employment opportunities in the sports sector will not only contribute to the local economy but also attract talented individuals who are passionate about sports and wish to pursue a career in the field.”
An official said, “The development of sports centers across J&K is a part of a larger vision to transform the region into a sports powerhouse. It acknowledges the abundant sporting talent that exists in the Union Territory and aims to nurture and showcase these talents on a national and international stage. The focus on sports recognizes that it can act as a binding force, fostering unity and inclusivity amongst diverse communities.”
