Srinagar: The ambitious transformation of Srinagar into a smart city has reached a monumental milestone, as the completion of work on 137 smart city projects promises to propel the city into a new era of development and vibrancy, officials said.
An official while talking to Precious Kashmir said, “This significant achievement is set to revolutionize the urban landscape of the city and enhance the quality of life for its residents.”
Pertinently, the comprehensive smart city initiative, undertaken by the government in collaboration with various public and private stakeholders, has focused on upgrading critical infrastructure, improving connectivity, and fostering sustainable living across the city.
“One of the key areas of transformation has been the upgrade of civic infrastructure. With a focus on improving water supply and waste management systems, smart technologies have been implemented that ensure efficient and sustainable utilization of resources. The implementation of smart grids has resolved many long-standing electricity issues, making power supply more reliable, reducing wastage, and ensuring a more environmentally friendly distribution system,” the official said, adding, “The transportation system within Srinagar has also witnessed a radical transformation. The implementation of intelligent traffic management systems has not only reduced traffic congestion but has also improved road safety. Smart parking solutions and the introduction of electric public transport options have played a significant role in reducing carbon emissions, further reinforcing the government’s commitment to sustainability.”
In line with the objective of making Srinagar a vibrant city, significant efforts have been made to enhance recreational spaces and cultural amenities. Parks have been revamped and equipped with smart lighting and recreational facilities, fostering a sense of community engagement. Furthermore, the implementation of digital platforms has made it easier for residents to access information about local events, festivals, and cultural programs, helping to create a thriving arts and cultural scene within the city.
To facilitate the ease of doing business and attract investments, Srinagar’s commercial landscape has also been revitalized. Smart solutions have been integrated into the existing infrastructure, such as the introduction of digital payment systems across retail outlets and the establishment of Wi-Fi enabled business districts. These initiatives not only enhance the convenience for residents but also make Srinagar an attractive destination for businesses and entrepreneurs.
“The completion of the 137 smart city projects will provide a boost to the city’s economy, generating employment opportunities in sectors such as IT, innovation, and tourism. The installation of CCTV cameras and the strengthening of the security infrastructure have further enhanced the safety for residents and visitors alike, making Srinagar an attractive and secure destination,” the official added.
The transformation that Srinagar has undergone has laid the foundation to become a role model for other cities and a shining example of innovative urban development in the country.
