Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested a drug peddler in Anantnag and recovered contraband substance from his possession.
A police party of Police Post Janglatmandi at a checkpoint established at Brackpora Anantnag intercepted a vehicle (Tata Mobile) bearing registration number JK21B-0743 driven by Sham Lal son of Bahadur Ram resident of Saror Jammu. During search, 25.770 Kgs of Poppy Straw like substance was recovered from the said vehicle. He has been arrested and shifted to PS where he remains in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized, a police spokesman said.
Accordingly, police said that a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in PS Anantnag and investigation has been initiated.
“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said.
