5 persons involved in Poppy cultivation held in Bla

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police in Baramulla on Saturday claimed to have arrested five accused persons involved in cultivating Poppy at Kamalkote, Shadra Sarai areas of Uri sector.

Earlier this month, after receiving specific information, Baramulla Police destroyed huge cultivation of poppy which was spread on over 4-5 kanals of land in Kamalkote, Shadra, Sarai areas of Uri sector in District Baramulla and a case under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Uri and investigation was initiated, a police spokesman said.

During the course of investigation, a police party led by In-charge PP Kamalkote PSI Shubham Seth under the overall supervision of SDPO Uri Shokat Ali identified and arrested five accused persons who were found involved in cultivation of poppy in their land, police said.

They have been identified as Asgar Hussain son of Akbar Hussain, Iftikhar Hussain son of Mohd Afzal Manhas, Maajid Ali son of Hashim Ali Khan, Abdul Rashid Manhas son of Feroz Din, all residents of Sarie Shadra, and Syed Tufail Hussain son of Anayat Hussain resident of Kundi Barjala Shadra.

“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding cultivation of contrabands in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling & cultivation of contraband substances shall be dealt as per law,” police said.
