Militant aide held in Pulwama, IED destroyed in Sopore: Police

‘Chargesheet produced against 8 accused in IED case’

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a militant associate in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district and also said that Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was destroyed in Sopore.

A police spokesman said that Police in Pulwama along with Army (55RR) and CRPF (182/183 BN) at a joint checkpoint established at Bandzoo Crossing arrested one active militant associate of Al-Badr and recovered incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including a pistol from his possession.

He has been identified as Yawar Bashir Dar son of Bashir Ahmad resident of Arigam Pulwama.

In this regard, police said that a case under FIR number 358/2022 under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Pulwama and further investigation is in progress.

“Besides, the joint teams of Police and Army (52RR) detected an IED on Bypass Road near Seer Crossing in Sopore. Soon after the detection of the IED, traffic was halted and the movement of people was restricted. Accordingly, Bomb Disposal Squad was rushed to spot and the IED was destroyed without causing any damage. A case under relevant sections of law was registered in PS Tarzoo and further investigation is in progress. The timely recovery of the IED thwarted an untoward incident and has scuttled the nefarious plans of terrorists to derail peace and harmony,” police said.

Meanwhile, Police in Pulwama produced a chargesheet before the competent court of law against eight accused persons involved in a case under FIR number 65/2022 of Police Station Litter regarding recovery of an IED at Armulla Lassipora area of Pulwama.

“On 16/06/2022, Police received information that an IED had been planted in Armulla Lassipora area of Pulwama. Subsequently, Police swung into action and raided the said location and recovered an IED weighing about 15Kgs fitted in a pressure cooker and also apprehended 02 accused persons.”

During the course of investigation, the arrested accused persons confessed their involvement in the crime and also disclosed the names of five more accused persons associated with Al-Badr for their active involvement and role in procuring and transporting the said recovered IED.

Accordingly, police said that a case was registered and on the basis of evidence gathered offence punishable under relevant sections of law for commission of instant crime were established.

“The investigation of the case concluded and chargesheet against 08 accused persons including one foreign militant handler has been produced before the Court of Special Designated Court under NIA Act at Srinagar,” police said.
