Drug peddler held in Sopore: Police

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a drug peddler in Sopore and recovered contraband substance from his possession.

Officers from Police Station Sopore under the supervision of SDPO Sopore Furqan Qadir, during patrolling at Mumkak Sopore intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot after noticing the police party but was apprehended tactfully, a police spokesman said.

He has been identified as Muhammad Asif Dar son of Ghulam Hassan Dar resident of Mumkak Sopore. During search, 42grams of Brown Sugar like substance and a weighing machine was recovered from his possession.

Accordingly, a case under FIR number 206/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Sopore and investigation was initiated.

Meanwhile, police urged people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. “Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.”
