Anantnag: A 22 year old youth from Bragam Dooru in Anantnag district is among the seven candidates from Kashmir who have brought laurels to Jammu and Kashmir by qualifying prestigious Indian administrative service (IAS) conducted by UPSC.
Hailing from Bragam Dooru in Anantnag district, Waseem Ahmad Bhat son of Mohammad Yusuf Bhat, secured 225th rank in the prestigious exam bringing laurels not only to Jammu and Kashmir but to his native area, Dooru Shahabad. Though the area has produced many political stalwarts and literary figures but Waseem is the first to have qualified IAS.
Son of a class IV employee, Waseem did his primary schooling from Rainbow school and elementary schooling from SS Mission Nathpora. He later shifted to Iqbal Memorial Institute Anantnag for secondary and higher secondary education. After passing his 12 with good grades he went to NIT Srinagar where he did engineering.
After pursuing engineering, Waseem decided to try his luck in administrative service. To realise his dream he sought guidance from many and remained focused on studying the relevant books recommended for IAS aspirants.
“I worked very hard and remained glued to the books since the day one I decided to make it to IAS. Finally my hard work paid,” Waseem said.
He even went to Dehli to prepare for the exam. Though Waseem did not do any coaching from any reputed coaching centre but he had a chance to study without any disturbance there as the situation in the Valley was not favorable for studies.
Joy of Waseem and his family’s know no bounds since the day he was declared as qualifier.
Given his hard work Waseem was expecting the success in the exams but he never expected he would rank at 225.
“I knew my hard work won’t go waste but making it at 225th rank in such a prestigious exam was beyond my expectation. I m more than happy to make it in just first attempt,” Waseem told reporters.
Besides his hard work, Waseem credits his parents and grandfather for achieving the feat.
“First of all i am highly thankful to Allah for blessing me with such a success. But besides Allah if there is anyone who deserve credit for my success are my parents and grandfather who always encouraged me and respected my choice,” Waseem said.
His father , Mohammad Yusuf Bhat said that Waseem used to study all the time while preparing for exams. “It is his hard work that Allah rewarded him for,” Bhat said.
Waseem’s message for the youth is to stay away from evil acts especially from drugs.
“It pains you to see the young people mostly in their teens falling to drugs. Drugs are ruining not only their lives but of their families as well. I want to convey to the youngsters to stay away from this menace and concentrate on studies,” Waseem said.
