New Delhi, Jan 22: India has not received any request for the supply of Indian made Covid-19 vaccines from Pakistan either on a government to government basis or commercial basis.
India, the hub for vaccine production, has already begun supply of vaccines to the neighbouring countries and Seychelles. On January 21, India supplied 10 lakh doses to Nepal and 20 lakh doses to Bangladesh. “Today consignments of 15 lakh doses for Myanmar, one lakh doses to Mauritius and 50,000 doses to Seychelles are being airlifted,’ Anurag Srivastav, official spokesperson of Ministry of External Affairs, said in his weekly media briefing in virtual format.
“There is interest in many countries in accessing vaccines from India which is the global hub for vaccine production.In so far as these requests for vaccines from India, Prime Minister has already stated that India’s vaccine production and delivery capacity would be used for the benefit of all humanity in fighting this crisis,’ the spokesperson said.
The MEA had announced on January 19 India’s grant assistance of vaccines to the neighbouring countries which commenced the next day. On the first day, 1.5 lakh doses of vaccines were supplied to Bhutan and 1 lakh doses to Maldives as grant assistance.
“Supplies as grant assistance to Sri Lanka and Afghanistan will be undertaken after receiving confirmation of regulatory clearances from these two countries.
Contractual supplies are also being undertaken to Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Brazil, Morocco, Bangladesh and Myanmar,’ he added.
Keeping in view the domestic requirements of the phased rollout, India will continue to supply COVID-19 vaccines to partner countries over the coming weeks and months in a phased manner. It will be ensured that domestic manufacturers will have adequate stocks to meet domestic requirements while supplying abroad.
The supply of Indian made vaccines are underway both as gifts as well as on commercial basis. There are consultations involving a number of Ministries preceding such supplies, the spokesperson said. “In terms of quantities and types of vaccines, the supplies abroad on government to government, government to business and business to business basis would be based on availability and regulatory approvals in the countries concerned,’ the MEA spokesperson said.
