Srinagar, Nov 03: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to witness light rainfall in parts of the region and snowfall over higher reaches around November 5, as a weak Western Disturbance is expected to affect the region, Meteorological Department Director Mukhtar Ahmad said on Tuesday.

Ahmad said that the weather system may cause light precipitation at isolated places, while most areas are expected to experience dry weather thereafter until November 9.

He said another Western Disturbance is likely to influence the region on November 10 and 11, with the possibility of light rain in some districts of Kashmir and Jammu divisions and light snowfall over higher-altitude areas.

Isolated thundershowers are also possible during the period, he said, adding that no major weather activity was anticipated under the prevailing forecast.

Meanwhile, temperatures across Jammu and Kashmir are gradually declining, with further drops expected in the coming days.

“Winter has almost set in,” Ahmad said, noting that shallow fog was being observed over plains during morning hours.

He cautioned that reduced visibility due to fog could become more frequent in the coming days and weeks.

On agricultural operations, the MeT director advised farmers to continue harvesting and other field activities, including fresh sowing, threshing and preparation of fields, as weather conditions remained largely favourable.

He also urged people travelling across the region to adhere to traffic advisories, particularly while moving through vulnerable and higher-altitude areas. (KNO)
