In a major step towards social justice and inclusive growth, the Jammu and Kashmir government reported issuance of 26,544 Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) certificates from the Union Territory (UT) in the last two years.
The UT administration has issued 24,058 and 2,486 EWS certificates in the Jammu and Kashmir Divisions respectively.
The EWS reservation policy provides for a ten percent reservation for economically backward people in education and government jobs.
The UT administration deserves kudos for taking this initiative that has been taken up with a view to giving economic opportunities to the economically disadvantaged sections of the society.
The EWS certificates open up vistas of education and employment for meritorious candidates belonging to lower-income groups.
The fact that the scheme has benefited people from both the UT divisions is heartening as it signifies that the administration has been able to reach out to people in the Valley as well.
Though more people from the Jammu Division have availed of this scheme, there is no doubt that the UT administration has been successful in making people in the Kashmir Division also aware of their rights.
The UT administration has done a commendable job in ensuring that people from the fringes of society get an opportunity to better their lives.
The government can be expected to chalk out more such schemes that would bring about all-round development and enable the common people to lead a life of dignity.
The EWS certificate holders will no longer be economically backward as they will be able to educate their children.
The UT administration has initiated a pioneering scheme that has been welcomed by the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The common people have developed a sense of belongingness as they are made to feel that whatever is best for the UT is being provided to them.
The people of the UT are optimistic that blossoms of development will spread even to the farthest reaches of the state.
The youth of the state will be able to fulfill their dreams as they will have greater opportunities for higher education and jobs.
In a way, the UT government has taken a step that has enabled people to dream of a brighter future for themselves and their children.
People from all walks of life can now look forward to a happy and prosperous life as the UT administration seems to have been able to deliver on its promise of providing opportunities for all.
